Current wildfire situation

This overview shows wildfires in the DACH area and neighbouring regions that our crisis detection considers reliable. It is updated four times a day.

Satellite data lags reality — NASA FIRMS by hours, Copernicus/EFFIS by about a day. This page is for orientation, not operations. In acute danger: emergency number 112 (CH: 118 fire, 144 ambulance) and the instructions of emergency services.

When a fire appears here

Only fires meeting at least one criterion are listed: confirmed burnt area (Copernicus EFFIS), confirmation by at least two independent sources, manual confirmation by the core team, or repeated satellite detection over at least three hours (NASA FIRMS). Single unconfirmed hotspot pixels deliberately do not appear — from orbit, industrial sites and one-off heat signatures look like fires. The confidence figure is our detection’s internal estimate (0–100); relaxations for heavy machinery only start at 80 and never based on satellite data alone.
