When a situation appears here — and when not

Official alerts (BBK/NINA, FOCP/Alertswiss) appear as a matter of principle: a human triggered them at an authority. We reproduce the alert texts verbatim and filter only what is not an operational situation — siren drills, technical tests, all-clears, risk-level advisories (such as fire bans) and accompanying notices like smoke odour nuisance. Satellite-based detections, by contrast, must qualify before they appear: through a confirmed burnt area (Copernicus EFFIS), through at least two independent sources, through manual confirmation by the core team — or through repeated detection across at least two separate satellite overpasses (NASA FIRMS). Single unconfirmed hotspot pixels never appear: from orbit, industrial sites and one-off heat signatures look like fires; permanent heat sources such as steelworks are additionally filtered by a daily recomputed exclusion list. Each situation carries three markers: the alert level (advisory, active, critical), its sources — and the confidence (0–100), our internal reliability estimate. Satellite data alone caps at 79; verification relaxations for heavy machinery only start at 80, and thus never on satellite data alone but only on extreme official alerts or human confirmation. Situations disappear on their own: a withdrawn official alert deactivates its zone immediately, and satellite zones expire automatically without fresh confirmation. In Germany and Switzerland coverage is both official and satellite-based. In the other countries, official weather warnings via MeteoAlarm are added (severe levels only: flooding from orange, storm only red) plus, for Italy, INGV earthquakes from magnitude 4.5 — authority-declared point situations such as bomb disposals are not yet covered there. Not every detected situation is announced here: wildfires seen only by satellite appear only while they are rated critical — at least 200 hectares of confirmed burnt area and a fire signal within the last 48 hours. Official and human-confirmed situations always appear. Smaller fires are real but a matter for the fire brigade — there is nothing a private person could contribute. The zone still exists and still lowers the verification threshold locally; it simply does not appear on this list. Official warnings, situations entered by the core team and anything rated critical always appear, regardless of area.
